About Wegovy®
How does it work?
Wegovy® works by acting like the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone in your body that makes you feel full after eating. It helps regulate your appetite, so you might eat less and shed pounds when you take it while exercising regularly and eating nourishing meals.
What does it treat?
Wegovy® helps some people with higher BMI manage their weight. Typically, it is prescribed for adults who are living with diabetes, high blood pressure or related health concerns. Wegovy® helps control appetite, which can lead to better health over time.
What forms does it come in?
Wegovy® comes in two forms: Prefilled Wegovy® injection pens and tablets. Injection medication is usually taken one time per week and injected under the skin. Wegovy® pills come as tablets that are taken with water on an empty stomach, usually once daily.
Wegovy® vs. Ozempic®
Wegovy®* and Ozempic®* are both brand-name GLP-1 receptor agonist medications that mimic the GLP-1 hormone, which helps lower blood sugar levels, reduce appetite and promote fullness. Wegovy® is prescribed for weight loss in adults with a higher BMI or certain weight-related health conditions. Ozempic® is prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes. They come with slightly different dosing instructions, and both are prescribed with diet and exercise recommendations.
