Is it your hormones?

Perimenopause is a natural stage of aging that begins when hormone levels fluctuate and then gradually decline, eventually stopping menstruation altogether (menopause). This transition can span a third of your life—and every person's journey is unique. Not everyone experiences symptoms during this shift. But if you're dealing with hot flashes, debilitating fatigue, new mental health struggles, urinary challenges, cognitive fog, or other disruptive symptoms, hormone therapy (HT) may provide relief.

With Optimize It, a licensed provider specializing in HT will review your health history, symptoms and blood biomarkers. If they determine that HT can help, they'll prescribe the optimal prescription treatments tailored to help restore your energy, focus, virility, and so much more.

About Hormone Therapy (women)

What does women's hormone therapy treat?

Hormone therapy (HT) treats symptoms of perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause like hot flashes, vaginal discomfort, fatigue, and mood changes. Depending on symptoms and blood work results, providers may prescribe hormone therapies like estrogen and progesterone. Or they may offer non-hormonal treatments.

What prescription hormone therapy (HT) treatments are available with Optimize It?

Dr. B offers several HT treatments, which can be prescribed alone or in combination with others, as advised by a provider.

For example, a combination birth control containing estrogen and progestin (a form of progesterone) helps regulate the hormone fluctuations of perimenopause. Estrogen via vaginal tablets or transdermal patches treats hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Oral progesterone can be used with estrogens to reduce menopause symptoms.

I don't want to take a medication with hormones. Are there any other options?

Yes. For some patients, providers may find it appropriate to prescribe Veozah (Fezolinetant), which reduces hot flashes and night sweats by blocking a chemical in the area of the brain that helps regulate temperature. Or they may prescribe Paroxetine, an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) medication that helps to manage menopause symptoms.

Discuss these options with your provider during your Optimize It consult if you do not want to take hormonal medications.

How long do symptoms of perimenopause and menopause last?

There is no "normal" timeline for perimenopause and menopause symptoms. Some studies suggest that they can happen over 30 years of a woman's hormonal transition. Some women will stop having symptoms when menopause is complete (they reach post-menopause). Others will continue to have symptoms for years or decades after final menstruation.

Will I have to be on HT medication indefinitely? When does treatment stop?

HT medications are prescribed to help ease symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. Treatment can continue as long as these symptoms last. But it can also end when hormone fluctuations resolve, and symptoms stop.

Are my symptoms from perimenopause, menopause, or something else?

Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disruption, decreased libido, vaginal dryness, painful sex, cognitive or mood changes, extreme fatigue, joint pain and bone fractures.

During Optimize It consultations, we screen for conditions that can cause some of these symptoms to make sure they are caused by hormonal fluctuations, hormone decline, or something else.

Side Effects

What are common HT side effects?

Common side effects of HT treatments may include breast tenderness, bloating or fluid retention, breakthrough bleeding (spotting or bleeding outside of an expected period), headaches and mood changes.

This is not a full list of possible side effects, as several different types of medication may be prescribed for HT. But most symptoms are typically mild and often go away a few months after starting treatment.

With Optimize It, patients are provided details about all prescribed treatments and their risks. And they get unlimited support from licensed providers to discuss these side effects and alter treatment, if necessary.

Cost & Coverage

How much does hormone therapy for women cost with Optimize It?

The Optimize It consult fee is $145 for those who self-pay. Those with insurance coverage may pay a copay or other price, as determined by their insurance plan benefits. Blood work fees vary, but Dr. B has secured a discounted self-pay price for all required blood work. Medication costs are determined by the type of medication prescribed and whether you pay with insurance coverage or out-of-pocket.

Why are blood work fees not included with Optimize It?

Hormone therapy is a complex treatment that requires specific routine monitoring in order to keep individual patients safe. Because of HT complexity, we offer a discounted price for all required labs.

I'm a Shed It patient. If blood work fees aren't included with Optimize It, why are the consultation fees both $145?

When creating our longevity programs, we have to consider the medical complexity of each treatment. GLP-1 treatment is certainly not one-size-fits-all. But as the hormonal fluctuations of perimenopause and menopause can vary over many years, corresponding treatment requires extensive time and monitoring from HT doctors. So we can't price Shed It and Optimize It equally.

Can I use insurance coverage for Optimize It?

Yes—and we can help you find out if your insurance benefits will cover the cost of online consultations and HT medications! During your consult, we'll invite you to share your insurance details so that we can provide a free benefits check. Within a few days, our Insurance Specialist Team will email your results.

How do refills work?

We'll send email reminders when it's time to take your next online consultation, and your provider will send your prescription to your pharmacy shortly after your consultation is complete.
